Listening Volunteer
Are there any requirements?
- Commitment to attending our initial training process.
- Commitment to completing a minimum of three phone or IM shifts each semester.
- You must not be in your final year of study to register for training
- You must have a good level of spoken English
Training
We organize training for students who want to become listening volunteers once each semester. Training is 6 weeks long and is usually every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8pm. It is conducted in-person, on the UoM campus.
Our extensive training process ensures our volunteers can provide their fellow students with professional and emotional support. Training is run by experienced volunteers and external speakers with the aim of preparing our new volunteers and spreading awareness about issues faced by students. We cover a huge range of topics including mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, alcohol and substance abuse.
